German-made Type 2 cable, single-phase 7.4 kW
This is Phoenix Contact's C-Line Type 2 charging cable, a German-made, second-generation lead with a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector at both ends — a vehicle connector for the car and an infrastructure plug for the charging station. It is a single-phase Mode 3 cable built to Phoenix Contact's documented engineering specification, from the conductor cross-section to the contact plating.
Single-phase up to 7.4 kW
The cable carries 32 A on a single phase for up to 7.4 kW. As with every Mode 3 cable, the actual rate is set by the lowest of three limits — the cable, the charging station and the car's onboard charger — so the full 7.4 kW is available when the supply and the car both allow it. Both ends are Type 2, matching any car with a Type 2 inlet and the Type 2 sockets on home and public AC stations.
How it is built
Inside the black TPE-U sheath is a 3 × 6.0 mm² power set plus a 0.5 mm² control conductor, about 17 mm in overall diameter, with a minimum bending radius of 255 mm. The power contacts have a silver (Ag) surface for low, stable contact resistance, and the housing is plastic with a soft-plastic grey grip area. Insertion and withdrawal forces are held below 100 N, and the connector is rated for more than 10,000 insertion cycles — the detail you would expect from a Phoenix Contact C-Line assembly.
Signalling, protection and standards
Communication with the station uses the control-pilot and proximity contacts (CP and PP) with pulse-width-modulation signalling and a 220 Ω proximity coding resistor, as defined for Mode 3 (Case B) under IEC 62196-2. Plugged in, the connection is protected to IP44; with the protective caps fitted the connectors are rated IP54. It operates from −30 °C to +50 °C and is rated for storage down to −40 °C.

Frequently asked questions
Is this a single-phase or three-phase cable?
Single-phase, rated 32 A for up to 7.4 kW. It carries one power phase (L1), neutral and earth plus the two signal contacts. For three-phase AC charging you need a three-phase Type 2 cable.
What does Mode 3, Case B mean?
Mode 3 is AC charging through a dedicated charging station that handles protection and control signalling. Case B is the arrangement where the cable is a separate lead with a connector at each end, plugged into both the car and the station — as here.
