Multifunction energy metering with Modbus RTU
The Eastron SDM630-Modbus V2 combines detailed local measurement with remote data access in a compact DIN-rail format. It can be configured for single-phase two-wire, three-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire networks and measures directly up to 100 A, avoiding external current transformers on circuits within that rating.
More than a cumulative kWh reading
Alongside imported and exported active energy, the meter reports reactive and apparent energy, voltage and current by phase, active, reactive and apparent power, power factor, frequency, maximum demand and total harmonic distortion. The backlit display and front controls make these values available at the board without a separate monitoring system.
This breadth is useful when the objective is not only cost allocation but also checking phase loading, demand and basic power-quality indicators. The selectable 1p2w, 3p3w and 3p4w arrangements allow the same meter family to cover several common supply configurations.
Remote integration through Modbus and pulse outputs
The RS485 interface uses Modbus RTU, allowing compatible energy-management systems, charge-point controllers and building-monitoring equipment to read the meter over a wired bus. Two S0 pulse outputs provide an additional integration route for imported and exported energy.
Modbus compatibility does not by itself guarantee plug-and-play operation. The receiving system must support the meter's register map and be configured with matching address and communication settings.
