Four-pole Type 2 surge protection for AC boards
The VCX L1-4-C AC Professional is a Type 2 surge protection device for a three-phase AC distribution board with neutral. Its four-pole arrangement covers L1, L2, L3 and N, limiting short-duration overvoltages caused by switching events and indirect lightning effects before they reach connected equipment.
The Type 2 role in coordinated protection
A Type 2 SPD is installed at a distribution board to limit transient overvoltages within the low-voltage installation. Where the building design requires a Type 1 device for lightning-current protection, the Type 2 stage is coordinated downstream; in other installations, Type 2 protection may be the specified board-level stage.
The correct arrangement depends on the supply system, upstream protection, conductor routing and the building's lightning-protection design. Selection and installation should therefore be handled by a qualified electrician rather than treating the discharge-current figure as the only criterion.
Discharge ratings and condition indication
Each pole has a nominal discharge current of 10 kA and a maximum discharge current of 20 kA using the standard 8/20 µs test impulse. The mechanical indicator provides a quick visual check of protection status. When it signals end of life, this non-replaceable design is renewed as a complete device.
The unit mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail and is rated IP20 when installed. It belongs inside a suitable distribution-board enclosure and is not a weatherproof device on its own.
