Type B residual-current protection for power-electronic loads
The Ev31-63-B is a 63 A Type B residual current circuit breaker for circuits where smooth DC leakage may occur as well as conventional AC and pulsating DC residual currents. This broader detection range is the key distinction from a Type A device and is relevant to equipment such as EV chargers, photovoltaic inverters, frequency converters and UPS systems.
Why Type B detection matters
Power electronics can produce residual-current waveforms that a conventional Type A device is not designed to detect. Smooth DC can also affect the operation of upstream residual-current protection. A Type B RCCB is designed to respond to these additional fault-current forms so that the protective concept remains effective where the connected equipment can generate them.
The need for Type B protection depends on the equipment, any DC residual-current detection already built into it, the earthing arrangement and the applicable installation rules. The 63 A current rating is only one part of selection; the complete protective arrangement must be specified for the circuit.
Distribution-board installation
The device mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail and is intended for 50 Hz AC networks. Its IP20 rating assumes installation inside a suitable enclosure. A mechanical endurance rating of 4,000 cycles, terminals accepting conductors up to 25 mm² and a specified tightening torque of 2 Nm provide the practical information needed for board design and installation.
Selection, testing and installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician. This RCCB provides residual-current protection; overcurrent and short-circuit protection must be coordinated as part of the wider installation design.
