Phoenix Contact Type 2 charging cable, single-phase
This Phoenix Contact charging cable links an electric car with a Type 2 inlet to any Mode 3 AC charging station — a home wallbox or a public post. Both ends carry a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector, and the control electronics of the station manage the session; the cable itself is the durable, well-made link between the two, from a German connector manufacturer with a strong reputation for build quality.
Single-phase up to 5 kW — what to expect
The cable is rated 20 A on a single phase at 240 V, giving a maximum of 5 kW. As with any Mode 3 cable, the rate you actually see is the lowest of three limits: the cable's rating, the charging station's output, and your car's onboard AC charger. On a station and a car that both allow it, this cable will carry its full 5 kW; on a lower-rated supply it simply passes through whatever the station delivers.
It fits any car with a Type 2 inlet, which is the European standard on the large majority of EVs and plug-in hybrids. The 5 m length reaches comfortably from a wall box or post to a charging port on either side of the car.
Built to be handled daily
The connector housings are moulded from solid, non-flammable thermoplastic that resists scratches, pressure and knocks, with a soft-plastic grip area for easy plugging and unplugging. The outer sheath is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPE-U), chosen for flexibility, long life and abrasion resistance, and the connectors are rated for more than 10,000 mating cycles — a meaningful figure for a cable used every day.
Fitting the supplied protective caps whenever the cable is unplugged keeps the contacts clean and extends its life, and coiling it back into its bag after use protects the lead.
Weather protection and standards
Plugged in and charging, the connection is protected to IP44; with the protective caps fitted, the disconnected connectors are rated IP54, which adds dust protection during storage. The connectors conform to IEC 62196-2, the standard for Type 2 charging interfaces. These are ingress ratings for everyday outdoor use, not a case for immersing the connectors.

Frequently asked questions
Will it charge my car at 5 kW?
Up to 5 kW, if both the charging station and your car's onboard charger allow it. A Mode 3 cable carries whatever the lower of the two provides; on a single-phase supply limited below 5 kW, the cable passes through that lower rate rather than adding to it.
Which cars does it fit?
Any electric car or plug-in hybrid with a Type 2 (Mennekes) inlet, the European standard. Both ends of this cable are Type 2, so it also matches the Type 2 sockets on home wall boxes and public AC posts.
